Excellent value for your money

This is my first laptop and I accidentally found a good deal on this machine this week
and I got it for [..] after rebates. I really don't like a compact screen because it's
hard to read texts and I do a lot of image PPs so 17" screen is just perfect for me.
The screen is bright thought it looks to be a little glossy. This is a typical Vista
machine so start up is a little slow but once it's loaded up,it's quite fast.
My several co-workers have HP laptops and I thought their PC's wireless connection was
a bit slow and that surfing on the net seemed to be also a bit slow. This is when they used my
Verizon wireless modem. I don't know what models they have but I thought that's what I should
expect from a current laptop.

Wrong! :) This machine's wirelss connection is quick and surfing online is quite fast.
That's probably because of wireless N and T-6500 Pentium chip. I was looking at T-4200
machine but I'm glad I didn't buy it. This maxchine is built for multi-task jobs and it
does an excellent job. I haven't burnt any CDs/DVDs because I usually do it with my desk top.

If you're looking at this machine, you will be happy to hear what I'm going say about heat.
I used this machine for 5 hours straight and this machine handled the heat very well.
Yes,I felt "some" heat from the bottom and from the screen but it's not alarmingly hot at all.
I know this because all my co-workers HP laptops get hotter than my machine.

This laptop comes with 3 GB memory and its maximum memory capacity is 4 GB. I feel that this type
of machine should be allowed to expand the memory up to 8 BG. It is already fast but you know,
I felt that HP skipped a design on this respect.

Paying a full price on this laptop is not for people on a budget like me, but I just happened to
find a good deal and for the price I paid,it's a steal.

HP G70-460US is an efficient,fast,quiet,cool-headed machine and I highly recommend it.

Outstanding buy for the money. Had everything I needed and expected. I research high and low to find the computer that had as many as the new features I needed within my budget and this model exceeded my expectations. Most other similar models will cost more than $100 and up.

Only negatives I have is some of the software installed is "Trial" versions from "Microsoft and Adobe". And they are expensive to buy! Thought I was getting the full versions or at least the basic versions. I simply installed the older software I already owned and problem solved. Not a fan of Vista but I'll live with it. I should be getting a free upgrade to the newest OS version but I didn't see it offered. Not actual "recovery disks" but 10GB is set aside for recovery or you can make your own!

For "HP" the computer fits my needs exactly and so far no complaints there. Large 17" screen, large 320GB HD, fast graphics, and surprisingly light weight (6.6 lbs actually less) compared to the older 17" model I had that weighed 9 pounds! I like the sleek and stylish design. It very quiet you can't hear the fans. Also the speaker volume could be louder, but it's adequate. With everything going USB it could use a couple more ports than just the three it has but an add-on will solve that. Built in camera and speaker works very well with "Skype". Even with the conveniently located "headset" connectors in the front I don't need too use a headset unless I want some privacy. Software for it has some funny graphics you can have fun with too.
Portable Desktop

Reviewer: Ebony Blue,
I call it a portable desktop because it provides all that a desktop has (including a numeric keyboard, 17" monitor), but is not tethered to a desk. All things considered, when closed it is a thin laptop. It would not be one that I would carry around a campus, but under some other circumstances I would not hesitate to take it with me. For example there was a one day photo class resently where I used it to take notes. Previous posts out lined all the specifications and installed software so I won't go into them again.

I will say that installation of some software I already own downloads quickly and smoothly. The shiny plastic of the top may be easily scratched so a still have the plastic film on it for now. Have looked at smaller computers with less features that cost a lot more than this one (found this on sale with a rebate). Would recommend this laptop for most people.
Great for Linux too!

This HP G70-460US is a great computer. It came with Vista and I immediately formated and put on Ubuntu 9.04. Everything worked right out of the box including a neat feature added in Ubuntu. The wireless light blinks to show when you are sending and receiving data on you wireless. I am fully impressed with HP and more impressed with the Ubuntu team!

Most Excellent

Excellent laptop, everything is wonderful... well, except that it comes with Vista, which sucks horribly, but, oh well, can't blame HP for that. Wish wish WISH XP was an option!! But it's not on any new laptop, so...

For the price, this is the BEST laptop choice available at the time of my purchase!! I checked out many, many alternates and I'm very happy with this choice :)

Great value, huge screen

I bought this laptop as a replacement for another HP I had with less memory. Laptops are so inexpensive these days, I like to upgrade every few years. As a home user, I really love the ease of HP laptops, how quickly they are able to be used right out of the box, and how user-friendly it is. My previous HP was a Pavilion dv-6000, and although I really liked it, it was time for an upgrade in storage. Another thing I love about HP is how affordable they are. There is always one you want on sale at any big box stores, and usually they also have a mail-in rebate.

My favorite feature on this is the quick wireless connection with just the press of a button. Things I wish it had are:

1. 12 cell battery - it doesn't last more than a few hours
2. dual headphone jacks - my Pavilion came with that, and it's handy for latenight DVDs in bed while my baby is sleeping next to us
3. bigger up and down keys - all HPs have numeric key pads on the right now, so the up and down arrow keys are easy to miss as they are no longer all the way over on the right of the keyboard.
4. Windows Home Edition - I still think it's a scam we have to buy this separately now and install it, though they are often onsale on this website for 1/2 the original cost.

All in all, very happy with this computer, and with HP in general. Now if only I could find a printer I like....

All in all, a great value for such a big screen, very glad we upgraded.
GREAT!!!
